Robinhood officially launched the public mainnet for Robinhood Chain on Wednesday, marking the company's biggest step yet into onchain financial infrastructure as it looks to expand beyond traditional brokerage services and into decentralized finance.

Market Context

The launch comes amid an accelerating convergence between crypto and traditional finance, with established players racing to build blockchain-based trading infrastructure. Tokenized real-world assets have emerged as a key battleground, with multiple platforms competing to offer around-the-clock equity trading on distributed ledger technology.

Analysis

Robinhood Chain is built on Arbitrum (ARB) and designed specifically for tokenized real-world assets and decentralized finance applications. The public mainnet launch follows approximately four months of testnet testing and brings the company's tokenized stock products fully live through Robinhood Wallet in more than 120 countries, though availability varies by jurisdiction.

The company also introduced Robinhood Earn, a decentralized lending product allowing users to lend USDG—the firm's dollar-backed stablecoin—through self-custody wallets. The product offers an estimated 7% annual percentage yield on USDG deposits.

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood's senior vice president of crypto and general manager for Crypto and International, framed the launch as a bridge between traditional finance capabilities and DeFi potential. "Decentralized finance unlocks possibilities beyond what traditional finance can offer, but historically, it has required technical expertise to navigate," he said.

Beyond its core blockchain ecosystem, Robinhood unveiled Agentic Accounts for crypto—an AI-powered trading tool enabling eligible U.S. users to connect artificial intelligence models to the platform's trading infrastructure while retaining control over capital allocation and trading parameters. The company also announced plans to expand perpetual futures trading in Europe beyond crypto to include commodities, ETFs and foreign exchange markets.

Regulatory approval timelines for various jurisdictions will be critical, particularly in the U.S. and European markets where perpetual futures expansion is planned. The adoption of Agentic Accounts among retail users could signal broader AI integration into crypto trading workflows. Robinhood (HOOD) shares may react to investor sentiment around the company's DeFi pivot as quarterly earnings approach.
